Schedule: part time / on call as needed
Position Summary:
The Counselor is responsible for individual and group counseling for chemically dependent adults. Performs comprehensive client assessments, leads a variety of treatment and educational groups, develops and conducts individualized treatment plans and coordinates with community agencies.
Qualifications:
• Minimum two (2) years paid experience of providing direct substance abuse counseling services in an intensive setting.
• Certification or in-process of certification in drug and alcohol counseling or registration in a State of California approved certifying organization is required.
• MFT or MSW interns are encouraged to apply.
• Ability to pass criminal background investigation and drug test.
• CPR and First Aid Certification required.
• Annual Tuberculosis test (provided by Janus of Santa Cruz upon hire).
• Bi-lingual in Spanish/English highly desirable.

• Personal and intellectual ability to collaborate and organize effectively, understand and work with complex systems, provide professional leadership to the multi-disciplinary team.
• Physical ability to safely perform job functions with or without the aid of mechanical devices.
• Manual dexterity and gross motor skills sufficient to operate a computer or manually complete required documentation in a legible and timely manner.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in language that can be readily understood by the majority of clients, staff and funders.
• Ability to effectively perform job responsibilities in a high stress environment.
• Ability to utilize efficient, productive work habits;
o Establish appropriate priorities for timely and accurate completion of tasks.
o Complete all work within expected time frames.
o Consistently respond positively, with creative problem solving, to changing work environment demands and pressures.
o Identify problems proactively and offer constructive suggestions for corrective action.
o Take initiative and responsibility to obtain knowledge and skills to improve performance.
